Engaging A Strategic Insight Manager

By Shelia Johns

Strategic insight is required when a company or organization has to make crucial decisions during a defining juncture in the cycle of its operations. The role is given to an executive who will deliver creative and dynamic solutions that are in line with the strategy of the company. These recommendations are supposed to position them for a better future.

The role requires a very informed and creative individual with the ability to master foresight. This requires incredible research and information that will be crucial for the sales and marketing team. It is a challenge that requires you to look backwards and then forwards into the future and make accurate predictions. The individual engaged in any organization should be dynamic and proactive in providing solutions to current challenges or redundancies.

The executive is co-opted into a strategy team to mentor and motivate them. The best person to perform this task is an outsider who has not been part of the old mentality. A consultant or member of another department will bring fresh thinking. It is an opportunity to offer independent evaluation to your strategies and do away with what does not work. This will create a new culture and change approach to a number of things.

A strategist is engaged on temporary basis with clear goals. They include change in operations and instituting new ways in order to grow revenue. The first thing to be done is brainstorming on current strategies and identifying the approaches that would have led to losses. The past is important because it helps the company capture its market share. Changing what does not work leads to revenue and market share growth.

The executive needs to be very ambitious and self driven. This is required to guarantee turnaround and effectiveness in marketing which will result in increased sale volumes. The thoughts for such a person should be foresighted. This means that the plans that are going to be laid down will deliver the expectations of your organization in the coming years. The team is put together to drastically change the culture and approach and align them with the goals in future.

Some desirable personal attributes of the strategic adviser include the ability to interpret data and information. This information is used to build a journey or road map spanning several months or years. Project and process management skills will be required of such a person. He should have the ability to create and work in a fast paced environment that requires a lot of learning.

The client is the center of all activities and plans developed by the strategy team. This means a heightened awareness of changing customer tastes and demands. You should bear in mind the strategies being used by your competition. Study the market to identify the changes happening there and respond accordingly.

An expert offering strategic insight should be experienced in the field and well versed with the latest development. Team work and proper communication are required to ensure that you carry everyone on board. This will foster an open-minded, creative and proactive culture aimed at delivering the desired results.
