Finding Out About Marvel Action Figures

By Alta Alexander

Little boys and grown men everywhere love to collect super hero dolls which look like their favorite characters. Marvel action figures have been around for a long time and they continue to be popular with every human being. Someone can choose from a large assortment of great comic book characters.

Years ago it was very unlikely that comic books would feature a female with great strength and power. Everyone knew about the DC creation named Wonder Woman but they had never heard about the "Invisible Girl." As time went on this particular female has become quite popular and she is well loved by everyone. A toy group called Mego was brave enough to produce a doll which looked exactly like the Invisible Girl.

The Mego doll sold out instantly and is worth tons of money on today's toy market. The Invisible Girl statue was the only female character within the Stan Lee collection from Mego. They had decided that she was the most important female created by Mr. Lee and therefore this girl would stand alone with the males. People working for Mattel tried their best to produce a Barbie Invisible Girl doll but it failed.

Many people are now enjoying the new "Avengers" movies which are playing at local theaters. These fans do not know that many years ago Mego also produced a doll which resembled "Iron Man." He was dressed in his usual red outfit and his mask was molded to his face.

In order to please current fans Toy Biz created a new Iron Man doll which had a mask which could be taken off. Under the mask everyone could see the handsome face of the rich tycoon named Tony Stark. This particular doll was about nine inches tall and did not have the same style as the Mego creation.

Toy Biz was quick to produce an image which looked like "Mr. Fantastic" but it also failed to meet the Mego standards. Many people are familiar with the story of the famous "Fantastic Four" group. They were four individuals who went into outer space and came back with great powers. Mr. Fantastic is named Reed Richards and his wife is the Invisible Girl.

Mego created a commercial during the 70's which focused on all of their current super hero creations. This certain commercial also features all of the statues which were made to represent the DC super hero line. Unfortunately the DC heroes were not as good looking as the ones from Stan Lee.

Stan Lee was quite disappointed when the movie "Thor" came out several years ago. The producers failed to include the super hero's alter ego who was named Dr. Donald Blake. Fortunately many fans from the past remember Dr. Blake and they were glad when Mego produced a Thor doll. He is one of the most expensive Mego products on the market.
